Hospital transfers come in three shapes. Going in for a planned admission, coming out after discharge, or moving sideways from a hospital bed to a rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility. Each has its own timing pressure.
Discharges are the hardest. A patient is cleared to leave, the bed is needed, and family are often at work an hour away. Jomia coordinates with whoever is calling, whether that is a discharge planner, a spouse or a case manager, and gets the pickup arranged around the actual release time.
Because the trip usually happens on a rider's weakest day, the standard is higher, not lower: help through the lobby, help into the vehicle, help through the front door at the other end.

06The transfer, mapped
The driver identifies themselves at the transport entrance and confirms the patient name and destination with whoever is releasing them. Any discharge instructions or equipment travelling with the patient are noted so nothing is left behind on a lobby chair.

Jomia operates out of Woodbridge and drives daily through the Virginia medical corridors. If your pickup address or destination sits further out in Virginia, call and we will confirm availability honestly before you rely on it.
Questions, answered
Yes. This is the most common hospital request. We agree a likely window in advance and hold a call-when-ready arrangement so the driver can be dispatched as soon as the ward confirms the patient is released.
Yes, provided the patient is medically stable and does not require clinical monitoring in transit. Hospital to rehabilitation, hospital to skilled nursing and facility to facility transfers are all routine trips.
Drivers meet at the patient transport or main entrance where hospital staff hand over. Ward access is controlled by each hospital's own policy, so the handover point is confirmed when the trip is booked.
Hospital chairs stay with the hospital. Tell us at booking that the patient will arrive at the kerb seated, and an accessible vehicle plus the rider's own chair, or assisted ambulatory boarding, is arranged accordingly.
Yes. A companion seat is normally available, which matters most on the trip home when someone needs to carry paperwork and prescriptions.
Yes. Pre-surgery admissions, scheduled infusions and overnight procedure stays are all booked the same way, with a return trip arranged for the discharge day.
No. Jomia provides transportation and physical assistance only. If a patient requires oxygen management, monitoring or clinical care during the journey, the hospital should arrange a clinical transport service instead.
