The appointments you cannot drive home from
Dilated pupils and numbed jaws do not belong behind a steering wheel
Eye exams and dental work regularly leave a patient temporarily unable to drive. These are planned, predictable trips that people still get caught out by.
02Why this ride matters
A comprehensive eye exam usually includes dilation drops. Vision stays blurred and light-sensitive for several hours, which makes driving unsafe and walking in bright sunlight unpleasant.
Dental work brings its own version: local anaesthetic, sedation for extractions or implants, and a mouth that will not cooperate for a while afterwards. Sedation dentistry always requires an escort home.
Both are scheduled well in advance, which makes them easy to plan for. Jomia handles the trip so the appointment is not postponed because nobody could take the afternoon off.
03Who it is for
Routine and diabetic eye screening where vision is impaired for hours afterwards.
Post-operative reviews with a patched or sensitive eye.
Dental surgery under sedation with a mandatory escort home.
Routine dental visits for riders who no longer drive at all.
04The Jomia experience
Shaded seating and a slower walk to the vehicle after dilation.
The named responsible adult many dental practices require in writing.
These appointments run close to schedule, so wait-and-return often works well.
05How it works
01
Tell us if dilation or sedation is expected so the return is planned.
02
Dropped at the practice door with time to complete forms.
03
Guided out of the building when vision or comfort is reduced.
04
Escorted to the front door, with a quiet, shaded ride.
06Care and company
Riders leaving a dilated eye exam often cannot read their own phone, let alone find a car in a lot. The driver meets them at the door and guides them out rather than waiting to be found.
Escort service for sedation dentistry
Assistance after pupil dilation
Wait-and-return for predictable appointment lengths
Prescription pick-up on the way home when needed
Ambulatory and wheelchair accessible options
After dental sedation the ride is quiet and short, with paperwork and any prescriptions carried by the driver so nothing is dropped or forgotten.
